Benefits of Owning a Cat

Reduce heart attack and stroke

In a 20-year study that ended in 2009, neurologist Adnan Qureshi of the University of Minnesota Stroke Institute found that cat owners were much less likely to die of a heart attack and stroke. Non-cat owners were 40 per cent more likely to die of a heart attack and 30 per cent more likely to die of another cardiovascular disease than people from cat families.

Lower blood pressure

According to a study by Australia’s Baker Medical Research Institute, found that cat owners (along with dog owners) tend to have lower blood pressure than people who don’t have pets.

Reduce stress and anxiety

Owning a cat can be soothing and release calming chemicals in our body. The calming effect of owning a cat triggers the release of oxytocin, the hormone that is known for inducing feelings of love and trust. A simple petting session with your cat is enough to relax owners, as well as giving lots of love to your cat.

Easy company

Cats are relatively easy pets, making them more suitable to different households in many circumstances. This makes them a great companion for elderly families, or in households where members might be incapacitated in some way.
