In Australia, the Federal Senate has only recently voted to lower barriers for terminally ill patients to access medical cannabis. Medical cannabis is currently very difficult to obtain in Australia because while doctors can prescribe it for patients, the country does not have a readily available official supply. Medicinal cannabis has been used to treat various symptoms in other parts of the world for many years, including muscles spasms in MS and general pain relief. Research is also being done to use medicinal cannabis to treat tremors in Parkinson’s disease and seizures in epilepsy.
