6 Incredible Women We Love
Get inspired this International Women's Day by these six amazing women.

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we are looking at six incredible women around the globe doing extraordinary things.

Amal Clooney

A highly successful human rights lawyer, Clooney is also an author and activist. Most recently, she and husband George Clooney donated $500,000 in support of the March For Our Lives campaign organised by student survivors of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Florida. She is also a supporter of the charity Not On Our Watch, which provides humanitarian protection and aid for the marginalised, vulnerable and displaced around the world.

Malala Yousafzai

At only 20 years of age, Pakistani activist Malala is a strong advocate for women’s right to education. She has received numerous peace awards, and was the co-receiver of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. At just 15, Malala was shot in the head by the Taliban for publicly opposing their political views. Malala is fluent in English, Pashto and Urdu.

Emma Watson

A proud feminist, Watson has openly spoken about women’s rights issues over the years and is a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. Her campaign HeForShe calls on men to speak up for oppressed women everywhere, and in her 2014 UN address she said: “Men—I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue too.” Watson has also actively campaigned against issues facing the LGBT community in order to promote gender diversity. Learn more about Watson and HeForShe here.

Angela Merkel

Chancellor of Germany since 2005, Merkel topped Forbes’ most powerful women list an impressive eight times and is widely described as the leader of the Free World. In her three terms in office, she has opened Germany’s borders to a million Syrian refugees despite harsh criticism, saved the Eurozone from collapse three times and helped broker the international treaty to end Iran’s economic isolation over its nuclear programme.

Salma Hayek

Hayek is a Mexican-American film producer and actress who is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Hayek dedicates her spare time to charitable work to help increase awareness of discrimination against immigrants in the US and violence against women.

Angelina Jolie

Jolie has long been committed to humanitarian and charity work, and has worked extensively with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Jolie has been on field missions around the world and met with refugees in more than 20 countries since 2001. She was named a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador in 2001 and has her own non-profit organisation, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which aims to eradicate rural poverty, protect natural resources and conserve wildlife. Read about Jolie’s speech on sexual violence at The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) earlier this year.
