Approaching deadline

By Donna Duggan

We're currently in countdown mode, getting ready to send our bumper September editions to print, and I'm starting to question whether art director Jacqui, chief sub Laura and senior designer Lexi actually go home at all.

I’m a great fan of columnist Angela Mollard (thepunch.com.au) who began her career at the New Zealand Herald before moving on to London then Sydney. She mostly writes on the ups, downs and sideways of being a working mum and I often relate well to her tales. In a recent column she wrote about how if she were to do everything she should be doing (working, cooking, help the kids with homework, exercise, sex, etc) she would have about four hours left in the day for sleep.

I think regardless of whether or not you are a working mum, most people feel there is just not enough hours in the day to get through the to do list. In the MiNDFOOD office this week, we are in   countdown mode for sending our two very exciting September issues to print. Our friends in New Zealand should be readying themselves for one very special bumper issue. In Australia the issue is nothing short of gorgeous. Not that I’m biased.

Needless to say we have all been working very hard. It is not unusual for editor-in-chief Michael McHugh to send a stack of emails before 6am, nor is it unusual for me to respond. And sometimes I question whether art director Jacqui, chief sub Laura and senior designer Lexi actual go home at all.

Fashion editor Penny Hunt has once again spun her magic this month and has created some stunning stories. I’m always amazed at the work that goes in to creating a fashion shoot and have a new respect for the craft. Let’s just say we are a passionate bunch.
