One of the great perks of global celebrity status is having designers clamouring over themselves to get you to wear their clothes; it immediately gives that label publicity, which translates to sales and kudos.
New Zealand double Grammy award winning teen pop sensation Lorde (Ella Yelich-O’Connor) is one of the latest additions to this elite group of A-listers who get to wear designer garments before they even hit the shelves.
The 17-year-old has been praised for her style, which has been described variously as “soft alt-Gothic”, “quirky”, “alternative”, “risk taking” and “conservative” – the latter a reference to the “sensible” white shirt and wide-leg black pants she wore for her Grammys performance (a stark contrast to the revealing flesh-baring and sparkly outfits worn by others performing at the event).
During Grammys week Lorde was clocked wearing Prada, Celine, Balenciaga, Alaia, Miu Miu, Deadly Ponies and Meadowlark.
If you love Lorde’s style like we do and want to know how to get a piece of it, here are a couple of tips.
Lorde was spotted carrying accessory label Deadly Ponies “Mr Fill N Zip Fur” (pictured) recently. Apparently she now owns two – one for each Grammy. Made in New Zealand of plush goat fur, the bag is being released at the end of March (www.deadlyponies.com).
During Lorde’s memorable Grammy performance her hands were also the centre of attention, partly because of her black dip-dyed fingers and nail art but also for her choice of rings by Meadowlark. She wore two rings made by Meadowlark Jewellery – the solid silver “Crystal” cocktail ring (pictured), which is available now, and the “Metropolis” cocktail ring (pictured), which is part of Meadowlark’s new Ritual collection available from March (www.meadowlarkjewellery.com).
Lorde also wore Meadowlark for recent cover shoots for Rolling Stone and Yen magazines, and sported a Meadowlark’s solid silver “Wreath” necklace in her Royals video.
