Social media beauty queens may want us to believe dramatic, full-faced make-up is back and here to stay, but this week’s red carpet has confirmed what we’ve been thinking for quite some time: forget about heavy foundation and contouring – luminous complexions are set to rule the beauty world.
“Follow the red carpet more than the runway; it’s where you can pick out all the wearable beauty trends,” says Lori Taylor Davis, Global Pro Lead Artist for Smashbox. “Think fresh, nude, pinky and ethereal. As for the smokey eye, it’s not going anywhere but these days we’re doing it with a wash of colour, less liner and more smudged shadow under the lower lash line.”
Take a look at some of the best red carpet beauty inspiration we’ll be turning to this season.
A pop of gloss – set to make a big comeback this year – and glowing skin allowed actress Michelle Williams’ platinum blonde pixie cut and Louis Vuitton gown do the talking on the red carpet.
A subtle wash of pink eyeshadow lit up Lily Collins hazel eyes.
Pale pink lip colour offset Actress Jessica Chastain’s powder-blue Prada gown. Biggest take away? Sometimes the simplest looks win in the elegance department.
Pretty pinks with a subtle sparkle seemed to be the colour of the moment on the red carpet. The feminine hue was the perfect complement to Emma Stone’s soft, wispy up-do.
Old Hollywood glamour always wins us over and Brie Larson’s red carpet look complete with wine-hued lips and manicured tresses was no exception.
Sienna Miller’s youthful, fresh-faced approach to red carpet beauty was the overall winner in our books.
