The World’s Displaced

The World’s Displaced

2015 marks an unprecedented year of global displacement. With the level of people seeking asylum being the highest since after WW2; the past five years has seen refugees rates rise from 20 million to upwards of 60 million.

In Nigeria alone, nearly 1.5 million people have been forcibly displaced since 2013. The civil war in Syria has seen 4 million people flee in only five years and the Democratic Republic of the Congo has seen well over 2 million escape through threats of continued violence from civil war fighting, sexual abuse and exploitation.

These examples are barely a glimpse into the extraordinary numbers of refugees seeking asylum across the globe.

Reuters images show the extreme measures that those fleeing persecution are willing to go to, for even a semblance of safety.

Without continuing aid and changes in governmental policy, millions more will suffer the fate of these displaced peoples.
