Mother’s Day is coming up and we sat down with a few of our favourites, to see how they celebrate.
What do we usually do? When I was growing up, we would go to church and the choir mistress would give all of the kids in the choir a daffodil, and halfway through the service you would go out and give a daffodil to our mum during the songs. She was here in the US actually for Mother’s Day this year so I got her some daffodils. Usually we do something like a family lunch.
I love the philosophy and I think in my family, we kind of live by these rules, that if you have to make it all about one day, then you are missing out on a lot of other days. And in my life, we are actually going to be on a plane, flying, so I am going to treat them to that. I am going to treat my mom to some peanuts, American Airlines. (laughs) So I love to grab my mom and take her out to lunch and have a nice dinner with her and I enjoy doing that with her. So, we do as much of that as possible, so that if I am working and not around on Mother’s Day, yeah of course I will send her flowers and things like that. But my mom always when she was raising me, the whole idea of a birthday too was like you are precious every single day, you are not just precious on one day. So I think I have that philosophy about all of the holidays.
Well, my wife’s not my mother so the kids will hopefully make her breakfast but they’re ages one, two and three, so I’m not sure how that will go. But sure I’m going to do something nice for her and make sure that the kids don’t cry.
I’ll probably drag my sons on a hike. I don’t know exactly but we’ll set aside a time to do something special. I like Mother’s Day and I’ve got mothers I have to do deal with too, like mothers-in-law and all sorts of mothers. But for me, generally speaking, I do something with my kids.
I usually send a big thing of flowers to my mom and to my ex. Then also I send flowers to my ex and to my mother from my daughter and my step daughter and my step son, so it’s from the kids. Mother’s Day is a nice day. Where would we be without a mom?
I send flowers to my mother but we are a bit more random in my house than doing it on Mother’s Day. My kids will come out with me and we will just get flowers for Jennifer (Connelly) for no reason.
We’ll go to see Hot Pursuit (laughs) with our whole family and our mothers. Then there’ll be a brunch and then maybe we go see it again. No, seriously, we usually go to church and have a nice lunch
We love going to brunch. Usually if my mom is in the same city with us, my son always gives me flowers, gives her flowers and we go out for brunch and we spend the day together. You know, like normal. And my niece, usually she’s around with us. It’s just normal, like every mother.
My mother has passed away but in my household my six year old and I go downstairs and make a cup of tea and come upstairs and cuddle in bed and so on and so forth with the hopes that she’s about to wake up and come downstairs and join us. Then she will make the poached eggs because I don’t know how to make the poached eggs and she does. (laughs)
