Haute Couture’s Allegory of Spring

Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris was all about presenting collections for winter but Elie Saab, Atelier Versace, Valentino and Schiaparelli put us into a distinctly spring mood with their use of laurel leaf and floral circlets.

Versace and Saab’s looks could have stepped out of Botticelli’s ‘Allegory of Spring’ masterpiece while Schiaparelli, Valentino and Julien Fournie looked to Greco-Roman myths and legends.

Elie Saab’s fairytale collection

Attendees of Elie Saab’s winter 2016 haute couture presentation in Paris would be excused for thinking that they had stepped into a fairytale.

His glittering gowns, gleaming laurel leaf crowns, and gold eye make-up created a magical collection fit for a princess, complete with a bridal gown made of delicate gold lace. The perfect fairytale ending.
