French jeweller Chaumet again looks to its 235 year history to find inspiration for its latest collection. The hydrangea flower blossoms in the Hortensia collection, which features designs in three shades of gold, in rings, earrings and necklaces. www.hartfield.co.nz

Hortense Eugénie Cécile Bonaparte, born in 1783, was the daughter of Joséphine de Bearnaise, who married Emperor Napoleon I. The Chaumet Hortensia collection is a tribute to this elegant woman, recalling the numerous special orders that were created for the Beauharnais and Bonaparte families by the French Maison.

The Hortensia Collection interprets this flower as solid and openworked petals in polished and matte styles. Each piece is a handmade bouquet with randomly aligned petals making each creation unique. As a ring the hydrangea becomes a floral wreath enlacing the finger. As a pendant it resembles a round hydrangea cluster, a perfect sphere composed of flowers.
