Bullfighting protesters demand an end to Running of the Bulls

Bullfighting protesters demand an end to Running of the Bulls

Animal rights protesters in Spain have painted their bodies red, donned horns and laid on the ground, in a striking protest outside the bullring where the famous San Fermín festival takes place each year.

Members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and AnimaNaturalis, held up banners with, “Pamplona’s streets are stained with bulls’ blood” and “You Run, Bulls Die”. They have urged tourists to stay away as their support or participation in the brutal run makes them complicit in the animals’ abuse.

The dramatic demonstration aims to raise awareness and lead to the end of the deadly run. The archaic tradition, synonymous with Pamploma and immortalised by Ernest Hemingway’s book, The Sun Also Rises, dates back to the Middle Ages.

Do you think Spain should call time on this tradition?

Definitely ban this activity. I don’t agree with bull runs or bull fighting and I actually prefer to hear of more people getting injured rather than the animals…if this is what it takes to end this senseless tradition then so be it. Those who participate should expect to get hurt & I think it’s a shame that doctors & nurses have to attend to these people when other patients may have to wait.
