A body of parts

The basic function of fashion is to create clothes for the body, so it is perhaps not so curious that many designers have been fascinated by human anatomy of late, from Christopher Kane’s entwined figures to Schiapparelli’s ‘hand’ clutch and Vivetta’s boots with painted on toe nails. There’s also a show of hands as well as a collection of faces.

As a tribute to Bastille Day, a gallery of our favourite designs from Jean Paul Gaultier’s quintessentially French haute couture winter 2015-16 collection shown in Paris last week.

Gaultier’s beloved Breton stripes were a strong feature, as well as gold thread embroidery inspired by the costumes of Brittany’s bagad bands.
