The Eyes Have It

Prep First

The skin around our eyes is up to 10 times thinner than elsewhere on or face – that means it’s not only the first area to reveal signs of ageing, but the skin surrounding our eyes can also be more prone to damage. To keep your peepers and the delicate eye area youthful, always be gentle when applying colour to your eyes – avoid pulling skin taut when using eyeliner –
and remove eye make-up at the end of the day.

Try: Clinique All About Eyes Serum De-Puffing Eye Massage ($68); Elizabeth Arden PREVAGE Anti-Aging Eye Serum 20ml ($195); and Lancome Visionnaire Yeux ($118) for fresh peepers.

PREP

Glimmering Gaze

It’s never too early to get  your beauty bag prepped for the festive season. Let  skin glow and your eyes do the talking by lighting lids up with radiant hues and a touch of shimmer. Play it safe and pick your favourite shade, or experiment by blending sparkling shades together: there are not many colours that gleaming gold doesn’t go with.

Try: Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Velvet in Rouge Contraste ($60); Victoria Beckham Estée Lauder Eye Metal in Bitter Clove ($90); Dior Fusion Mono in Infinity ($61); and Jane Iredale Smooth Affair for Eyes in Gold ($68) for a lustrous gaze.

GLIMMERING

High Brow

Season after season the runway loves to remind us that big, bold brows are here to stay. Long gone are the days where the simple eyebrow pencil was the only tool available for creating stand-out brows – from gels to brow mascaras to chalks and powders, the solutions are almost endless. Cocktail products together – a clear gel will help keep rebellious brows in place and can be worn over a number of products – for long-lasting results.

Try: Billion Dollar Brow Powder ($36); M.A.C Big Brow Pencil ($40); YSL Couture Brow Palette ($120); and Jane Iredale Retractable Brow Pencil ($42) for out-there arches that will frame your face.

BROWS

Line Up

There will always be a time and a place for inky eyeliner, but embracing a rainbow of eyeliner shades and formulas will let you express you creativity. Stuck for inspiration? Look no further than the catwalk. Play with shimmering shades of silver and gold, or opt for a rich metallic bronze – blend it into neutral shades of eyeshadow to take your look from day tonight in one slick of liner.

Try: Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Bold Defining 24HR Liquid Eye Liner in Gilded Brown ($48); and M.A.C Star Trek Superslick Liquid Liner in Pure Show ($44)
to add a little sparkle to your look.

Red Carpet Round-Up, 18 November

The Hollywood A-list was out in force with Glamour magazine’s Women of the Year Awards held earlier this week. Head designer of Prada, Miuccia Prada was honoured at the awards for her contributions to fashion, art and culture. In a new move, U2 frontman Bono took home a Women of the Year Awards for his involvement in ONE organisation’s Poverty is Sexist movement. The magazine had earlier released a statement regarding the decision to recognise Bono:  “when a major male rock star who could do anything at all with his life decides to focus on the rights of women and girls worldwide — well, all that’s worth celebrating. We’re proud to name that rock star, Bono, our first Man of the Year.” Take at a look at our favourite looks from the week in the gallery below.
