The rumour mills were running hot, that singer Justin Timberlake and his long-term partner, actress Jessica Biel would be husband and wife by the end of the weekend, and for once they were right.
The couple, who have been dating for five years, released a statement yesterday confirming they had finally become husband and wife.
“It’s great to be married, the ceremony was beautiful and it was so special to be surrounded by our family and friends,” they said in their statement to People magazine.
The Sexy Back singer and his Total Recall actress wife have been dating on and off since 2007 and announced their engagement at the beginning of this year. Timberlake had previously been connected to pop-singer Britney Spears and actress Cameron Diaz.
The nuptials took place at the lavish Borgo Egnazi resort in Southern Italy on Friday evening. According to reports, around 100 guests attended the moonlit ceremony but were only made aware of the exact location at the eleventh hour.
The celebrity couple had tried to keep details of the wedding a secret and reportedly had “masses of security guards” and powerful light focused away from the church to “keep prying eyes away”.
Celebrities who were in attendance include the groom’s former ‘N Sync band members Chris Kirkpatrick, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and JC Chasez as well as comedian Andy Samberg, rapper Timbaland and the bride’s former cast-mates from her previous role on 7th Heaven.
It is estimated that the newlyweds spent close to $6 million on their big day, including costs for guest’s transportation, accommodation and various pre-wedding celebrations that took part in the lead up to the big day; including a picnic at a castle and beach party complete with firework display.
Guests, including the pop singer’s mother and her husband, were spotted leaving the wedding’s resort venue and flying out of the country yesterday.
The new Mr and Mrs Timberlake have also been photographed boarding a plane at an Italian airport, presumably on their way to their honeymoon location with Justin spotted wearing a gold wedding band.
