As Sabatini kicks off New Zealand Fashion Week with a champagne breakfast, Milly Nolan is there to bring you the latest trends emerging on the runway. MiNDFOOD reports.

Although the event officially starts on August 30, Sabatini kick started New Zealand Fashion Week 2011 with a champagne breakfast and show to celebrate their 20th birthday – a milestone for the family-owned business that had its beginnings with Sonny Elegant Knitwear before becoming the successful label that it is today.

Held at the Hilton’s Bellini Bar the atmosphere was electric with everyone looking bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for the beginning of what is always a great, but exhausting week for all those involved.

The models who walked the room showcased the Sabatini White winter 2012 capsule collection, titled Many Happy Returns. Tailored knits in varying hemlines – from minis to floor-length gowns revealed patterned fabrics in hues of mauve, berry, mustard, navy and grey. The make-up by Smashbox was all about flawless porcelain skin, defined filled in brows and a deep blackberry lip while the hair by L’Oreal professional was heavily back-combed in a nod to the 80s era.

That evening, the celebrations (and champagne) continued at the new Viaduct Events Centre with pre-drinks at the Moet & Chandon lounge before the M.A.C official opening party of NZFW, which saw models on display painted head-to-toe in body paint, influenced by artists such as Lichenstein, Matisee and Mondrain to name a few.
