Sacha Baron Cohen on his transition from comedy to drama

Sacha Baron Cohen has said he felt “very flattered” to be nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in mini-series The Spy.

In a departure from the social satire that made him famous, Baron Cohen played Israeli secret agent Eli Cohen in the thriller, which was inspired by true events.

Speaking to MiNDFOOD on the Golden Globes red carpet, Baron Cohen said there were “brilliant actors in the category”.

“Russell Crowe and Sam Rockwell, and I can’t remember the other guys’ names,” he said, causing wife Isla Fisher to laugh.

“These are proper, Academy Award-winning actors so I’m amazed and surprised that I’m in the category.”
