Kathy Bates confesses she felt nervous to act for Clint Eastwood

Legendary American actress Kathy Bates has confessed to feeling nervous to work with director Clint Eastwood on his new film Richard Jewell.

Bates said while she “loved” the collaboration with Eastwood, it took some time to calm herself on set.

“It took me a while to get over the excitement, the nerves, the wanting to do really well for him,” she said.

“I had to get over that a little bit because he’s such an icon and he’s done incredible films.

“To be a part of this, I can’t tell you what an honour it is for me and I think we’ve all done it proud.”

Bates stars as Barbara ‘Bobi’ Jewell, the mother of Richard Jewell, in the biographical drama.

The film depicts the 1996 Centennial Olympic Park Bombing, during which security guard Jewell found a bomb and alerted authorities to evacuate the area.

Jewell was then wrongly-accused of having placed the bomb himself.

Bates admits nervous feelings come with each new character she takes on.

“Each role is different and you start from scratch – just because you may succeed in one doesn’t mean you’re going to succeed in another,” she explained.

“It is a craft, it’s an art, and we don’t always hit the mark.”
