Basic Sweet Dough Recipe

Whether you are playing host on Easter Sunday or simply keen to make the most of the long weekend, this Basic Sweet Dough Recipe will inspire you. Master this sweet dough and try your hand at these Easter inspired global variations, your friend​s and family will not be able to resist the ​festive aromas of sugar and spice.

Ingredients:

1¼ cups lukewarm milk
⅓ cup caster sugar
4 tsp (2 x 7g sachet) dried yeast
2 eggs, lightly beaten
4 cups bread flour
1 tsp salt
100g butter, chilled, chopped

Method:

Combine milk, sugar and yeast in a bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside in a warm place 10 minutes. Stir in eggs.

Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Rub in butter. Add milk mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms. Turn dough out; knead for 10 minutes or until elastic. Transfer dough to a lightly oiled bowl.

Cover and set aside in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size. Knock back dough; knead until smooth.
