National Indigenous Music Awards 2013

The National Indigenous Music Awards will take place in Darwin on August 10 this year. The Awards celebrate the country’s top Indigenous musicians and this year they will also honour the musical legacy of Yothu Yindi – whose lead singer past away only a few weeks ago.

In what will be an emotional night, Mr Yunupingu’s grandson, Rrawun Maymuru, lead singer of rising Arnhem Land act East Journey, will join with original members of Yothu Yindi and other artists to cover the band’s most recognised and enduring songs.

Mark Smith , the organiser of the NIMA awards joins us to explain more about what this year’s event has install and explains how we can get involved int he nomination process.
