The make-up of a beauty editor

By Milly Nolan

Latest beauty blog: My make-up bag is bulging with all of the very latest beauty products and these are my favourites, writes MiNDFOOD Beauty Editor Milly Nolan.

Over the last few months my face has become a canvas for all of the latest lipsticks, foundations, mascaras and powders. Some products have made me look like a clown, while with others my skin radiates, my eyes sparkle and my lips are more plump than ever before. Here are a few of my favourites…

FOUNDATION

As the texture and appearance of your skin changes with age, it’s important to update your foundation. My latest favourite is Clinique’s Superbalanced Makeup.

The oil-free formula is light in texture, minimises the appearance of fine lines, contains anti-irritants and antioxidants and blends in perfectly for a natural, even-spread coverage. What more could you want in a foundation?

BRONZING POWDER

I always apply bronzing powder and tend to use it more in winter when my skin is a little paler. I love the way that with a few sweeps of the brush, Chanel’s Soleil Tan de Chanel bronzing powder gives instant colour and radiance to my face, neck and décolletage.

For highlighting and sculpting the contours of my face, such as around my eyes, the bridge of my nose and on my cheekbones, I use Dior’s Bronze Luminizer pen.

MASCARA

Elizabeth Arden’s Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment Mascara does exactly what the name suggests. As well as lengthening the lashes with an intense black colour, it is also infused with conditioning ingredients and vitamins, which revitalise and strengthen the lashes.

Since using this mascara I am convinced my lashes are thicker and fuller. I also like the way it never clumps, smudges or flakes.

CONCEALER

Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Concealer Kit is my life saviour, instantly concealing dark circles under my eyes, the odd freckle or blemish and any redness around my nose (especially during winter).

The yellow-based Creamy Concealer blends into my skin immaculately while the Sheer Finish Loose Powder sets the concealer for long-lasting wear. It’s invisible to the eye as is what it’s hiding!

LIP GLOSS

I have always preferred lip gloss to lipstick. I like the ease of application, the way the shine makes my lips appear more plump, the burst of colour and the fact that it won’t end up on my teeth.

My favourite lip glosses at the moment are Bobbi Brown’s Glitter Lip Gloss in Rose Sugar which gives my lips a natural look with a hint of sparkle and M.A.C’s Dazzleglass in Rags to Riches, which is a plumy pink with teal and red pearl.

EYELINER

During the day I find black eyeliner too harsh, preferring to wear brown, grey or copper shades that better suit my green eye colour and skin tone.

The eyeliners I have on-the-go at the moment are M.A.C’s Teddy eye pencil which is a rich, chocolate brown colour, Clarin’s Colour Fizz Copper eye pencil for a touch of metallic hues and Dr Hauschka’s Kajal Eyeliner Duo which is a double-ended eye pencil with white on one end to brighten the eyes and charcoal at the other for a smoky look.

BLUSH

To create the “just been pinched” look that is the latest trend for cheeks this winter and coming spring, I have been using i.d bare Minerals Blush Beauty powder.

The earth-derived minerals in this pretty, pink blush adds radiance and just the right amount of colour to warm the complexion. Lancôme also have a great range of oil-free blush powders in delicate berry and coral colours.

EYE SHADOW

The crème de la crème of eye shadows and the latest to land on my desk is the limited edition palette by Yves Saint Laurent.

The gold encased palette contains a trio of shades in chameleon black, metallic steel grey and champagne white.

Used together or separately, these stunning shadows are perfect for achieving a neutral look for the day and a sexy, mysterious look for a night out.
