According to an urban legend, the hundreds of cars in the images below were left behind by US soldiers that were stationed in the Southern Belgium village of Chatillon during World War II. It is believed that when the war was over, troops were sent home and could not ship their cars back to the US because of the expense, so they decided to hide them in the forest until they could come eventually back for them.
The local villagers refuse to buy into the tale, insisting the site is merely a car dump.
Either way, the graveyard is certainly a site to be seen, having housed up to 500 retro cars at it’s peak.
Today, only one plot remains, with many of the cars either stolen or removed due to environmental issues.
