Your herb garden
Dill is a hardy plant that is ideal for cooking. It can be planted in pots or a garden bed. It likes full sun and rich, organic soil.
Anise is great for cooking and easy to grow. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil but it will also tolerate dry soil conditions.
Chives are handy for cooking. Best positioned in well-drained fertile soil, chives prefer partial shade and tolerate a wide range of soils.
Borage is a hardy annual herb that likes well-drained soils and dry conditions in full sun. It also tolerates part shade.
Lavender prefers well-drained soil and full-sun (it doesn’t tolerate shade). In winter, use mulch to protect it from frost.
Coriander prefers plenty of sunlight, so if growing indoors choose a position under a window that receives full sun.
Basil is one of the easiest herbs to grow, particularly in pots, containers or window boxes in a warm, sheltered position.
Parsley, both flat- and curly-leaf varieties, likes moist, well-drained, sandy soil in a sunny or partly shaded position.
Peppermint thrives best in full or partial sun in rich, well-drained soil. It spreads easily so be mindful where you plant it.
Comfrey is a deep-rooted herb so it needs plenty of room. Position it in a sunny spot, ideally in fertile soil with organic compost.
In the garden or a pot, aloe vera grows easily in tropical and subtropical regions, preferring dry, sunny conditions.
Licorice thrives in deep, sandy soils in full sun. It is a hardy plant that tolerates low temperatures during autumn and winter.
