Greener hair

By Julianne Liebeck

Like other areas of beauty, the haircare industry is adopting greener approaches to their products and practices, Julianne Liebeck blog on MiNDFOOD.

Living with a green or humanitarian conscience is one of the biggest social trends of today. As a business owner and a woman who loves looking great I often wonder, “what is my impact on the environment?” After all, my colour, plus 100s of clients’ colour, goes straight down the drain.

People are leading more environmentally responsible lives, but why has it taken the haircare industry so long to follow suit? Maybe the industry thought it was a passing trend.

Either way, now we’re seeing action from all the major players. My favourite is Essensity because it has delivered a colour solution that is 90 per cent naturally derived and delivers on performance, with a social conscience, to boot. Essensity has ticked most boxes for me, and my clients are starting to ask for it by name.

Here are the facts about the brand:

  • The first ammonia and fragrance free colour with gently fermented ECTOIN containing more than 90 per cent naturally derived ingredients.
  • Outstanding colour performance with UP TO 90 per cent White Hair Blending.
  • Stabilises your hair and the structure and protects against the external influences for a long-lasting colour and natural shine.
  • 100 per cent free from: ammonia, fragrance, silicones, paraffin-/mineral oils, parabens and formaldehyde-derivates.

In addition to this, Essensity supports tropical reforestation by sponsoring replanting an annual minimum of 70 hectares in order to increase biodiversity and habitat for wildlife, as well as create local employment and sustainable use of forestland.

On my final green note for the day I would like to add that as a company mod’s are committed to the future of the earth by using greener products and minimising our packaging with a refill program.
