It’s a well-known fact that Prince George isn’t allowed to wear pants. But what about Princess Charlotte?

Poor old Prince George is barely seen out of his little blue shorts. Rain or shine, when the little prince steps out in public, he sports a pair of adorable shorts, often paired with knee socks, a preppy striped belt and a tucked-in polo.

While George is rocking his shorts, three-year-old Charlotte is always sporting a feminine dress.

Though the royal fashion rules do seem very strict, (re: Meghan Markle being told not to wear a tuxedo because the Queen prefers women in skirts and dresses), the reason Princess Charlotte is always in a dress is less extreme, and nothing to do with the Queen but rather to do with her mother. The simple reason for this is because Kate Middleton wants to keep her daughter in classic looks so the photos don’t date.

Apparently, Kate also puts Charlotte in traditional ‘old-fashioned’ outfits for official royal occasions because it marks the formality of the event.

While we wish Charlotte would step out in an edgy pantsuit, we still think her wee dresses are completely adorable.
