Wellness in Queenstown: Soul Journeys

After researching what women want from a holiday, like-minded friends and yoga experts Sandi Murphy and Amanda Woolridge were inspired to launch Soul Journeys. “People often go on holiday because their life is lacking meaning, and they are stressed and overburdened,” Murphy explains. ” The pair are excited to see the wellness community grow in Queenstown, and even though it’s only the start of the town being seen as a health and well-being destination, both Murphy and Woolridge believe there’s a lot of potential waiting to be discovered. “It’s really a new orientation for the whole town but look at this place – it’s soulful,” says Woolridge. “Bungee jumping isn’t for everyone,” laughs Murphy. As Woolridge goes explains, nature is the most amazing way to reconnect – and what better place to do it than Queenstown.

The duo want Soul Journey retreats to have a real point of difference. “It’s not about coming here and being in a bubble, it’s about how you can bring this awareness and wellness into your ordinary life,” explains Woolridge. “It’s about a transformative experience, you take the tools and the lessons back into the everyday,” Murphy agrees. It’s only natural that mindfulness forms a big component of the Soul Journeys retreats. “You end up burning yourself out when you over think,” says Woolridge. Mindfulness – mindful walking and eating – helps participants learn to accept the noise and focus on the moment. “It’s learning to be present,” says Murphy.

Each course begins with intention the pair explain. Rather than having a set goal that participants need to achieve or accomplish, Soul Journeys focus on the reasoning behind the desire to find more inner peace. “At the end we do integration around what the experience means and how we can support what participants have learnt back into real life,” says Woolridge. “Our intention is to empower, it’s not about telling people what they should and shouldn’t be doing,” says Woolridge. “Every retreat is very revealing; they’re all so different because of the people who are on them are all so different,” Murphy explains.
