Triennial EXTRA

Triennial EXTRA
Over ten summer nights, Melbourne's largest presentation of contemporary art and design sets the scene for a party not to be missed.

Surrounding new, exciting and thought-provoking work by over 100 artists and designers from 32 countries, Triennial EXTRA brings together a ten-night festival of dance performance, guest DJs, pop-up bars, architecture, food and conversation.

Experience the evocative smells, contemporary tastes and playful surrounds of Supernormal Natsu (Japanese for ‘summer’) as award-winning Melbourne chef and restaurateur Andrew McConnell (Cumulus Inc., Cutler & Co, Supernormal) resides at NGV’s Garden Restaurant for a good time (not a long time) during Triennial EXTRA. In a nod to Supernormal’s pan-Asian roots, the menu will celebrate the abundant produce of the season presented through a collection of new and exciting dishes exclusive to Natsu.

Kick off each night of Triennial EXTRA with a lineup of summer party DJ sets in the NGV Garden, Melbourne’s favourite backyard. Take in current ideas about far-reaching topics that impact us all. From identity, technology and environment, to democracy and religion, these conversations build a local and international view of the world and shape of our future.

See the world and its past, present and future through the eyes of some of the most creative minds working today. Five themes emerged in bringing together the people and works in this exhibition. Five words – Movement, Change, Virtual, Body, and Time – capture the common ground, overlapping concerns and implications of the artists, designers and their works.
