Thousands Evacuated From Fires Ravaging California
A bushfire in Southern California has now spread across 45,000 acres.

Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes as vicious wildfires that sparked in Santa Paula, California on Monday night sweep across the state.

More than 150 structures have been completely destroyed by the natural disaster, named the ‘Thomas Fire’, including Vista Del Mar hospital, which was razed to the ground. Over 400 firefighters were grappling with power outages across 186,000 buildings as they tried to evacuate civilians.

While no fatalities have been confirmed as of yet there have been dozens of unconfirmed death reports, Sergeant Eric Buschow of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office told the New York Times.

A second fire that began on Tuesday morning in Los Angeles County has rapidly spread due to dry conditions and the power of the Santa Ana winds. Mayor of LA, Eric Garcetti, said the weather was expected to continue throughout the week. “It’s a very difficult moment, but we will get through this,” he said. “We are a resilient city, we are a strong city, we are a capable city.”

Buschow confirmed Garcetti’s assertion, saying that the weather was “not going to get any better anytime soon…the fire is out of control.” He added that the fire was the worst he had seen – worse than the multiple extreme fires that broke out in California in October.
