Honouring Carers Week, an annual campaign and raises awareness for unpaid carers, the Queen, alongside her daughter Anne, spoke to four individuals about their roles as primary carers for their family members.
Alex, Amna, Mary and Nadia all shared their experiences, recounting the day-to-day struggles of being a carer and the impact on their own mental and physical wellbeing.
“I’m very impressed by what you have achieved already. I’m very glad to have been able to join you today,” remarked the Queen, video conferencing in from Windsor Castle.
Princess Anne, who founded The Princess Royal Trust for Carers in 1991, brought awareness to numbers of carers that often go unseen.
“I think we all recognise that we know carers somewhere,” she said. “Maybe we have stopped and wondered how on earth we can help.”
Sharing her gratitude to unpaid carers in a separate video, Princess Anne thanked carers for their selfless work.
“If you are an unpaid family carer, thank you so much for everything you do for those who cannot care for themselves,” she said.
“This Carers Week, and always, please know that your role is a vital one; one to be highlighted and celebrated, and one that should never be forgotten.”
