The Queen has jokingly fired a shot at Donald Trump, saying the US President’s helicopters “ruined” her lawn at Buckingham Palace.

And it’s not the first face-palm moment involving Trump and Her Majesty.

In June, Trump arrived at the palace by helicopter during his three-day state visit to the UK.

According to The Sunday Times, Her Majesty conveyed her distress in a light-hearted manner to Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison the day after Trump’s helicopters had left.

The Queen is reported to have said to him “Come and look at my lawn. It’s ruined.”

Morrison, along with Trump, was in Britain to help commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

According to The Sun, the section where Trump landed is one of her favourite patches of lawn and is where she likes to walk her corgis when staying at the palace.

It’s also where she hosts her annual garden parties.

It’s understood the helicopters’ engines and wheels left scorch marks and divots.

Trump first arrived at the palace in helicopter Marine One with wife Melania, where he was welcomed by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

A support helicopter, Nighthawk Two, landed on the lawn nearby.

Trump made two landings at Buckingham Palace, returning for an evening state banquet in his honour with other members of the Royal Family after taking the five-kilometre flight to the US ambassador’s London residence at Winfield House.

Her Majesty is believed to have denied a fleet of six helicopters to land at Windsor Castle when Barack Obama visited to celebrate her 90th birthday.

It’s not the first time Trump has failed to endear himself to the Royal Family, nor the British public, after an awkward gaffe at Windsor Castle in 2018.

The president walked in front of The Queen as the pair inspected the Coldstream Guards.

However, Trump’s move to walk in front of The Queen, didn’t technically break protocol, according to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams.

That said, Trump still looked like he “might as well have been wandering up and down a golf course,” Fitzwilliams told CNN.
