The best moments from Adele’s ‘One Night Only’ concert special

The best moments from Adele’s ‘One Night Only’ concert special
From surprise proposals to heartfelt ballads, Adele's concert special marked a spectacular return to the stage for the singer.

Ahead of the long-awaited release of her new album on 19 November, Adele put on an epic concert special. The CBS special, Adele One night Only, saw the singer take the stage at Los Angeles’ Griffith Observatory, her first public performance in six years – donning a gorgeous fitted black gown with gold galaxy earrings to match her tattoo.

The concert special aired alongside an interview with Oprah Winfrey, where the singer opened up about her songwriting, divorce and return to music.

“The most beautiful venue I’ve ever played. Thank you to everyone who made it possible,” shared the singer on social media. “To Oprah for allowing me to tell my truth lovingly in a safe space. The whole thing was pretty overwhelming, I’ve seen it twice and cried my eyes out both times.”

The special airs on 22 November in New Zealand on TVNZ and on 21 November in Australia on 7Plus.

Here are the standout moments from the night:

Old classics and new tunes

Adele opened the concert with a stellar performance of her hit ‘Hello’, alongside other classic tunes like ‘Skyfall’, ‘Rolling in the Deep’ and ‘Someone Like You’. She also treated audiences to new tunes from her upcoming album, 30, including ‘Easy On Me’ and ‘I Drink Wine’.

A surprise proposal

In what will surely go down as one of the best engagements of all-time, Adele helped one man pull off a surprise proposal. “If you make a noise, I’m gonna kill ya,” joked Adele, before the man led his blindfolded girlfriend in front of the stage.

The woman was speechless when the lights came up to reveal Adele. “Look at her, she’s so in shock!” laughed the singer, before serenading them with ‘Make You Feel My Love.’

A host of A-Listers

It seemed like Hollywood’s biggest stars vied for an invite to Adele’s Griffith Observatory concert. Famous faces in the crowd included Lizzo, Melissa McCarthy, Donald Glover, Drake, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gabrielle Union, Dwayne Wade, James Corden, Seth Rogen, Selena Gomez, Nicole Richie and Gayle King.

A special moment with her son

At one point during the concert, Adele revealed that it was the first time her nine-year-old son, Angelo, had seen her in concert.

“This is the first time that my son has ever seen me perform,” Adele said, teary-eyed. “It’s the absolute honor of my life, baby, to have you here tonight. And you look so beautiful, and so handsome and smart.”
