The new road trip route encourages people to explore Central Otago off the beaten track.

Winding 341km through the stunning Central Otago countryside, the driving route showcases the best of the region – journeying from Dunedin to Queenstown.

Stopping through Ranfurly and Middlemarch, the road trip route traverses dramatic landscapes and natural wonders, along with charming attractions and plenty of activities.

Designed to take 3 – 5 days (or longer), highlights include Dunedin’s Larnach Castle, the albatross colony at Taiaroa Head, the historic Naseby gold mining settlement and a walk along the Lake Dunstan Trail.

“A touring route has long been a vision for Central Otago communities and seeing that vision come to life is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when regions collaborate on a project.”

“Having an officially recognised and marketed touring route is a great way for us to inspire people to explore further and in more depth, those places and diverse authentic experiences the three partner regions have to offer. And we know that New Zealanders love a good road trip.”
