Spruce up your Beauty Routine with These Trends

As the weather starts to warm up and flowers begin to bloom, it’s time to forgo wintry colour palettes and embrace the bright, fresh and pretty colours of spring.

The new wave of metallic make-up can be used in a myriad of ways when you want to add a little glamour to your day or night look. From a subtle hint of dazzling silver eyeliner to an incandescent smoky eye, now is the time to sparkle and shine. Warm golden tones, are particularly popular this season and will complement all eye colours.

Try: Bobbi Brown Luxe Eye Shadow Multichrome in Incandescent ($70) gives eyes a radiant 3D effect; Stila Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Amethyst ($38 from Mecca Cosmetica) creates a dazzling stare in a vibrant violet hue.

It’s easy to have fun with colour this season as eyeshadows, eyeliners and mascaras are here in every shade of blue imaginable. Steady your hand and try a sleek winged liner look. If it’s statement blue eyeshadow you’re fond of, start with a primer to ensure your look stays put. Add a subtle sweep of colour across your cheeks and a touch of gloss on the lips to finish the look.

Try: NARS Eye Shadow in Showgirl ($30 from Mecca Cosmetica); Chanel Stylo Ombre et Contour Eye Shadow in Bleu Nuit ($62); Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Vinyl Couture in I’m the Trouble ($66).

If you’re tired of matte lipstick drying out your lips, you’ll be pleased to hear that matte lip colours are making way for high-shine formulations this season. But forget about the sticky gloss formulations of yesteryear – next-generation lip glosses deliver plenty of shine without being overly sticky. And unlike matte lip colours, glossy shades can create the illusion of plumper lips. Vinyl-inspired shine will be one of the biggest beauty trends of the season, which means new formulas won’t sacrifice serious colour pay-off. If you’re after something more demure, however, look for clever gloss formulas with the added benefits of nourishing and hydrating properties to keep lips in tip-top condition.

Try: YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in No. 69 ($66); Jane Iredale PureGloss Lip Gloss in Rose Crush ($59); NARS Full Vinyl Lip Lacquer in Abruzzo ($41 from Mecca Maxima and Mecca Cosmetica).

The Red Carpet Round-Up

We round up the best-dressed celebrities straight off this week’s red carpet.

Lady Gaga loves to make an entrance and this week was no exception with the star of A Star is Born turning heads at the UK and US premieres for her film. It was a magical Shakespearean-inspired Alexander McQueen gown embellished with gold and pearl beading that Gaga chose for the UK premiere. However, her dazzling Givenchy number, worn to the Los Angeles premiere, was no less impressive. The luminous look was a custom design by creative director Clare Waight Keller and featured breathtaking metallic lace which was draped over a strapless slip. A stunning scalloped cape trailed behind Gaga.

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, also turned to Givenchy for her first solo outing as a royal. Much more demure than Gaga’s Givenchy number, Markle opted for a simple yet stunning black dress for the opening of the Oceania exhibit at the Royal Academy.

Take a look at more of our favourite looks from the week that’s been in the gallery below.
