Sneak peak inside the Queen’s Scottish castle

Sneak peak inside the Queen’s Scottish castle
The outside may be grand, but the inside is surprisingly normal.

When the Royal Family shared a photo of the Queen meeting Canada’s Governor-General designate, Madame Julie Payett, earlier this week, we caught a glimpse at the interior of her Balmoral Castle in Scotland. This was extended when the Queen met with Governor General of Australia Sir Peter Cosgrove and his wife Lady Cosgrove on Thursday.

The Queen spends every August at Balmoral Castle, and wore her best Scottish attire for the private audience.

Contrary to the grand exterior of Balmoral Castle (pictured below), the room we are shown is comfortingly normal. A warm palette of woody brown and earthy green gives the space a cosy, inviting feel. The decorations are similar to those you would find in any nana’s home, with an antique mantel clock, a TV, soft armchairs and a simple space heater.

Perhaps unknowingly, the Queen has proven once again she is the people’s Queen.
