Sloth rescued from highway
Ecuadorian police conducted a rescue operation with a difference, transporting a frightened sloth to safety.

Earlier this week the Comisión de Tránsito del Ecuador released photos of an adorable rescue they conducted on the side of Quevedo’s recently opened highway.

Officer Aguayo noticed the ‘oso perezoso’ or ‘lazy bear’ as they are known in the area, frightened and clinging to a pole. When he stopped he discovered that the little sloth was too afraid to cross the road. To ensure that the was returned to the wild safely, the officer made the decision to transport the fragile cargo to the local vet.

The tiny creature was released with a full bill of health and returned to the wild where he will hopefully stay away from busy roadways in the future.

Following the rescue, the executive director of Ecuador Transit Commission gave an order to ensure that all animals found on streets and highways are properly and immediately attended to.
