It’s the image that fans of ‘The Crown’ have been waiting for ever since they learnt that Princess Diana would feature in the fourth season.

Finally, Netflix has released a photo of the re-creation of the Princess’ iconic wedding dress, worn by Emma Corrin as Diana.

According to Netflix, the dress was designed by Emmy Award-winning costume designer Amy Roberts, who “wanted to capture the same spirit and style of David and Elizabeth Emanuel’s original design, without creating a replica for Emma Corrin”.

Netflix said Roberts did not have access to the original patterns, but collaborated with David Emanuel to create the dress.

“He was enormously helpful, talking the design team through the detail of many of the original drawings to help them create this gown for Emma Corrin,” Netfllix said.

“Four months and five fittings later, with three people spending a collective 600 hours working, they had a dress.

“It’s made of 95 metres of fabric and 100 metres of lace, with a train that is approximately 30 metres long.”

Netflix said the Nottingham-based team who made the lace on the Emmanuels’ original dress also created the lace for the version for ‘The Crown’.

“Sadly the man who worked on the real-life dress passed away, but it’s his son who worked on the one you’ll see in The Crown,” Netflix said.

The original gown became one of the most iconic wedding dresses of all time when Lady Diana Spencer wore it to marry Prince Charles in 1981.

The ivory silk taffeta and antique lace gown had a 7.62m train and was decorated with hand embroidery, sequins and 10,000 pearls.
