The Royal Family were "looking forward to catching up" with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex over Christmas.

Prince Charles has spoken of his sadness at not seeing grandson Archie for more than a year.

A friend of the Duke of Cornwall told The Daily Mail that Charles misses being able to see Archie at Frogmore Cottage, Harry and Meghan’s UK residence.

“The Prince of Wales enjoyed popping into Frogmore Cottage to see his youngest grandchild and is sad that he hasn’t seen him for so long. He has missed much of his development since he is now growing up in the USA,” the source said.

“Other members of the family are very sad at not seeing him. Everyone really misses Archie – they feel it’s particularly sad for the Queen and Prince Philip.

“Harry always said he looked forward to raising his family with William’s – which of course is not now happening.”

Prince Harry and Meghan left the U.K. over a year ago to take a break from royal life. They returned in March to celebrate Commonwealth Day 2020 in London, before resigning as senior members of the Royal Family. They said they wanted to become “financially independent” and “split their time between the UK and North America”.

Since then the couple having been living in Los Angeles with their son, Archie, who has since turned one and learnt to walk.

The family has stayed in touch with one another via Zoom, like the rest of us. However Prince Charles, in particular, is especially sad he won’t be able to see his grandson for Christmas. He has not celebrated Christmas with his grandson after Harry and Meghan chose to stay in Canada last year for the holidays.
