Research Reveals The Latest Trends in Travelling
A new survey has found just what Aussie travellers are prioritising when heading overseas for a holiday.

New research from Hostelworld shows just what Aussie travellers prioritise when heading overseas for a holiday. A survey of 1500 Australian’s between 18-65 years of age found the participants to be more health-conscious, active, and outgoing than ever before.

The research revealed that the majority of Australian travellers are equally or more active on holiday than when they are at home, most pack jandles (62%) and men are more interested in practising yoga than women (41% compared to 24%). Additionally, Aussie travellers rate experiencing a new culture and de-stressing much higher than partying or tanning.

When it comes to food, 44% of Australians try to eat well and stay healthy while holidaying. There was also a prominent interest in fitness-related activities, including cycling (31%) and deep sea diving (24%). Global Head of Brand of Hostelworld Marek Mossakowski sums up the study’s findings: “Exercise, healthy-eating and finding fun and active new things to do whilst travelling are at the top of the wish-list for young travellers”, she said.

Personal trainer and body positivity ambassador Ashley Freeman says there are many different ways to exercise and stay healthy abroad, from running, paddleboarding and kayaking to surfing, hiking and even just opting for the stairs whenever possible. “Incidental exercise counts too”, she says. “Sometimes the best workouts are the ones you don’t even realise you’re doing!”
