Princess Kate’s whirlwind week
Princess Kate unveils new children's playground 'The Magic Garden' and talks about the family's newest member - Marvin the Hamster.

This week has been busy for Princess Kate, after gracing the centennial addition of British Vogue, The Duchess visited the National Portrait Gallery on Wednesday to view her portraits – which were part of the Vogue 100: A Century of Style exhibition.

This marked the third event in one day for the busy Duchess.

Princess Kate had previously spent the morning visiting the newly opened Magic Garden playground, where she played amongst a group of highly curious schoolchildren.

The playground, built upon the same spot where Henry VIII used to joust at Hampton Court Palace, takes its cues from the fairy-tale like Tudor Palace and has been over six years in the making.

The children were understandably besotted with the Princess, with one child asking the Duchess if she would like to go down the slide with her. Aqeelah Raamah, 7, shared, “she said she is going to bring her jeans and trainers next time so she can go down.”

Talking to the children she revealed that the family had recently acquired a new member – Marvin the Hamster, who was apparently a fast favourite with George and Charlotte.

According to People 9-year-old Darcey reported that Kate “said she had a hamster, and [Princess] Charlotte really likes it because the whiskers always tickle her face.”

When asked why her own children weren’t with her at the park, Elodie told People that the Princess, referring to the 25 foot wooden dragon centred in the playground, said “George would love the dragon, but he would be a bit scared.”

The Princess then followed up her visit to Hampton Court with a lunch at the mental health charity the Anna Freud Centre.
