Prince Philip remembered by his family in special unseen photos
The Queen, Prince William and more royal share touching tributes to the Duke of Edinburgh.

Prince Philip was known to be a reserved man and dutiful consort to The Queen during their 73-year-marriage.

Following the announcement of his passing on 9 April, the Royal Family have shared personal photos and stories about the Duke’s long life.

“He has quite simply been my strength and stay all these years, and I, and his whole family and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know,” said the Queen in 1997.

Throughout his life, the Duke of Edinburgh had a special bond and duty to the Estate workers, farmers and conservationists in The Queen’s Private Estates, including Sandringham and Balmoral.

In a photo shared by the palace, Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth are seen at Balmoral with their cattle in 1972.

Following the death of her father, Princess Anne shared a touching tribute to their special relationship.

“My father has been my teacher, my supporter and my critic, but mostly it is his example of a life well lived and service freely given that I most wanted to emulate. His ability to treat every person as an individual in their own right with their own skills comes through all the organisations with which he was involved.”

A passionate wildlife and conservation activist, the Duke of Edinburgh was the first President of World Wildlife Fund and remained involved with the organisation until his death.

In a candid photo shared by the palace, Prince Philip is captured marvelling at the monarch butterfly’s migration.

Prince Philip served in the Royal Navy until 1952, when he left to support the Queen. He remained an important figure in the Armed Forces, awarded honorary appointments and regularly visiting service personnel throughout his life.

Sharing a sweet photograph of Prince Philip with his great-grandchild, Prince George, the Duke of Cambridge said: “I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humour!”

During his lifetime, Prince Philip visited 50 Commonwealth countries and made a total of 229 solo visit around the world, including New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Trinidad and Tobago.

The Duke of Edinburgh also had a keen interest in science and technology, being a committed advocate for engineers.

He was also passionate about design, and as a wedding present to The Queen, he designed a bracelet made with stones from his mother’s tiara.
