Pow to plastic: a guide to compostable packaging
Ceres Organics' commitment to sustainability doesn't end once they source their ingredients - packaging is also a major focus, and an area they strive to continuously improve on.

The issue of plastic packaging has been troubling the team at Ceres Organics for years. “As an organic business, having a positive impact on our planet is at the heart of everything we do – and reducing our reliance on traditional plastics is a big part of this,” says CEO Noel Josephson.

In 2017, Ceres Organics launched its first home compostable bag. Designed to help reduce the amount of waste going into landfill, the bags are made from renewable resources – such as cellulose, a renewable raw material from trees, and GM-free corn sources.

Transparent, resealable and triple-layered to lock in the freshness of the food inside, the bags were the first of their kind in the market.

Since launching their first product in this innovative packaging solution, Ceres Organics now offers their Classic Muesli Range, Super Good Muesli, and core flour ranges in home compostable packaging.

They are also moving more products to glass – their first choice of packaging. For example, you will now find their Classic and Epic Paleo Breakfast Mixes in reusable glass jars. It’s all part of Ceres Organics’ ongoing commitment, not just to organic food, but to the wider environment.

3 tips for composting at home

1. Cut up your compostable packaging. This will make it easier for the packaging to break down.

2. Compost your coffee. Worms love coffee so make sure to throw your leftover grounds in the compost bin

3. Avoid fats or animal products. These attract pests like rat and mice.
