Patricia Field won’t return to dress the cast for the Sex and the City reboot due to a scheduling conflict.
The iconic costume designer was responsible for the striking outfits worn by the show’s stars, including Sarah Jessica Parker, but won’t be involved in the upcoming reboot And Just Like That because she’s too busy with other projects including Emily in Paris.
“The main reason was a time conflict. I wasn’t able to be in New York doing that and be in Paris doing Emily in Paris,” she said in an interview with WWD. “But I told them to call my very dear friend Molly Rogers, who also worked in my store back in the day. She did Sex and the City with me from start to finish. She knew it well so she’s doing it. My dance card was full.”
Patricia also touched upon her “very positive creative relationship” with Kim Cattrall, who won’t reprise her role as Samantha Jones in the reboot. The pair have kept in touch despite not working together for some time, and she still enjoys offering the actress fashion advice.
“As a matter of fact, she’s getting married at City Hall for a second time so I sent her to Dior,” Patricia revealed. “They make this New Look jacket that is a laser type jacket that comes in at the waist. It’s cut very well. She went there and got it.”
The Oscar-nominated costume designer said she is often drawn to romantic comedies because she enjoys choosing “happy clothes” and shared some insider details into a very glamorous episode she recently styled for Emily in Paris.
“Last night we were shooting a birthday dinner scene. Emily and her friends decided to have the birthday dinner in the courtyard of the building they live in,” Patricia said. “I thought, ‘Let’s just make this a beautiful tableau of costumes.’ It was like a fashionable birthday party. It looked kind of surreal. Here they were dressed up like they were going to the Oscars.”
