Patricia Arquette’s Oscars acceptance speech calls for equal pay
Patricia Arquette has used her Academy Award acceptance speech as a call to action for equal pay for women.

Patricia Arquette has made international headlines after she won the Best Supporting Actress trophy at the Oscars for her role in Boyhood.

But it was here acceptance speech which has veery one talking.

In her speech, Arquette dedicated her Academy Award to all American women, and ended with a powerful call to action.

“To every woman who gave birth to every citizen and taxpayer of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights,” she said. “It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America,” she said.

Her words moved fellow actress Meryl Streep so much that the celebrity got out of her seat to cheer Arquette on.

Arquette won the accolade for her portrayal of the protagonist’s mother, in Boyhood.

She had also won an award in the same category at last month’s Golden Globes for her role which grows in importance and hightened emotion as the film progresses.

The veteran actress who rose to prominence in films like True Romance and Ed Wood, had never been nominated for an Oscar previously.
Over the course of Boyhood‘s 12-year filming period, she had won an Emmy for her role in the TV procedural Medium.
