Panda Power

Panda Power
China has built a 250-acre solar power plant that is shaped like a giant panda

“Adorable” is perhaps not the first word that comes to mind when one thinks of solar energy. However, a renewable energy company in Datong, China has developed what is probably one of the most adorably designed solar power plants in the world.

Panda Green Energy Group Ltd, one of the country’s largest clean energy operators, built the solar farm in the shape of a giant panda. The Datong Panda Power Plant has an aggregate install capacity of 100MW, of which the first phase 50 MW project was successfully connected to the grid at the end of last month.

The Datong Power Plant is the starting point of a global layout of similar projects, which is of great significance to the global green energy application, green concept communication and energy transformation. A 100MW Panda Power Plant can provide 3.2 billion KWH of green electricity in 25 years, which is equivalent to saving 1.056 million tonnes of coal, or reducing 2.84 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

The initiative behind the Power Plant began in May last year, and the company signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Development Program in September. In May of this year, at the “Belt and Road” Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, the Panda Power Plant project was incorporated into the Action Plan, which was jointly signed by the Chinese government and the United Nations, becoming one of the important landing projects of China’s “Belt and Road” Initiative.

In the next five years, Panda Green Energy will carry out the “Panda 100 Program,” and build Panda Power Plants along the “Belt and Road” countries and areas, thus bringing together an integrated multi-energy ecological solution.
