Residents in New South Wales may have to provide proof they have received a Covid vaccine before they will be allowed to enter bars, restaurants and workplaces, the Premier has said.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has floated the idea of venues being allowed to ban being from entering their premises who cannot provide proof of a Covid vaccine.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Berejiklian says the government is working on vaccine rollout policies in the coming weeks, and are discussing ways to “incentivise” the uptake of the vaccine.

“Clearly, opportunities to travel overseas or opportunities to enter certain workplaces or venues might be enhanced if you have the vaccine,” she said.

Berejiklian says some of those decisions may come from the government or from organisations themselves.

“Some workplaces might say: ‘if you‘re coming into work, this is our preference, or this is what you (need to) do’,” she said.

“I think they’re the conversations we need to have in the coming weeks.”

The Health Minister has reiterated that “vaccination in Australia is and will remain voluntary” but that their goal is to have “as high an uptake of the Covid vaccine as possible.”
