Nicole Kidman wins Australian Academy award for ‘Boy Erased’

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards was held in Sydney on Wednesday, and Hollywood superstar Nicole Kidman was among the big winners.

Nicole Kidman picked up the prize for best supporting actress for her performance in Joel Edgerton’s Boy Erased at the 2018 AACTA Awards. Kidman plays a religious woman who forces her gay son (Lucas Hedges) to undergo church-supported gay conversion in the film, adapted from Garrard Conley’s memoir. Edgerton also picked up the AACTA award for best adapted screenplay for Boy Erased

The star took the stage and, according to Daily Mail, spent her speech advocating for people to give their money and attention to smaller films such as Boy Erased.

“These films are hard right now. They’re hard to get audiences for. They’re hard to get made,” the 51-year-old told the crowd.

“You know, I’m also in ‘Aquaman.’ That is not hard to get made. It’s a whole different thing and it’s nice to be fun,” Kidman said.

The Australian actress attended the awards alongside her mum and niece who were in the crowd as she accepted her award. She even took to Instagram prior to the awards show to show off their fashionable looks.
