There are nearly 2000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia and there have been eight deaths.
“We recognise and appreciate what has happened in other parts of the world and indeed all of us are learning from each other, but obviously this notion of greater isolation, more time at home, less time out in groups is what we are encouraging,” said federal health minister Greg Hunt.
“We have always indicated as the prime minister said and the national cabinet said, this was stage one.”
As to what stage two entails, Hunt is leaving that to “the medical expert panel working on that”.
“Right as we speak, those next stages are being designed and the timing and the implementation measures for it are being carefully considered,” he said.
It comes as the number of cases on NSW has surged past 800, with 149 new infections confirmed in 24 hours.
Meanwhile, another death was announced on Tuesday after a female passenger in her 70s who had been on the Ruby Princess cruise ship passed away in hospital in Sydney.
