Michelle Obama Admits She Always Feels Better After a Workout
Going to the gym isn't always fun, but once you've finished your workout, you always feel better according to former First Lady, Michelle Obama.

The importance of taking care of yourself is a message that she preached during President Obama’s administration and she continues to do so.

“When it comes to our health as women, we are so busy giving and doing for others that we almost feel guilty to take that time out for ourselves,” she said on a recent book tour. “A lot of mothers will understand this because I found myself looking around after I had my kids, and I didn’t have time for me, but my husband was at the gym every day. And I was like, well, how are you going to the gym? He was like, ‘I make time for the gym.’ I was like, what?”

Obama began to prioritise exercise for herself, however, as she has got older her workouts have changed. While she used to focus on weights and heavy cardio, when Obama turned 50 she started to include exercises “like yoga” that keep her flexible in her routine.

“I want to feel good, she said. “And I want to be as healthy as I can be because I want to be able to enjoy my 70s and 80s.”

“We have to own our health. It’s one of these things that no one can take from you, no matter your race, your socioeconomic background, your educational level,” Obama said, as reported by CBS News.

“We all have the ability to own our health, but so many of us don’t know-how. We don’t have the resources, we don’t have grocery stores in our communities, our kids aren’t living in safe neighbourhoods where they can play outside. So much in our lives has changed.”

Obama has always encouraged her friends and community to get involved in exercise, regularly hosting group exercise classes at the White House during the Obama Administration.  Her bootcamp weekends were a reminder to keep taking care of others, they need to take care of themselves first.
