Met Gala goes virtual – and you’re all invited

While fashion’s biggest night of the year has been cancelled due to the pandemic, High Fashion Twitter has taken it upon themselves to host a virtual Met Gala.

The Twitter page, a popular online community of fashion lovers, will be hosting an unofficial Met Gala event on May 4 – and unlike the real event, everyone’s invited.

“Given the anxiety and stress that the Covid-19 outbreak is causing, we believe that continuing to move ahead with the HFTwit Met Gala is the right choice,” High Fashion Twitter writes. “Hopefully, this event will serve as a little spot of joy and unity for this amazing community.”

So, what can attendees expect? The dress code is “Temporal Conflation” with five challenges to participate in.

These include ‘Brand Challenge’ where you must create a look from one randomly-assigned brand, ‘Illustration Expression’ which encourages attendees to design or sketch their own look, and ‘Wardrobe Styling’ a sustainable fashion challenge where you must create a look from whatever’s in your wardrobe.

From Laga Gaga’s outfit transformation to Billy Porter’s spectacular arrival, take a look back at last year’s iconic Met Gala moments.
