Scotland Yard detectives have met officers in Porto to discuss the Madeleine McCann investigation. This as media reports suggest Portuguese police are probing a “new clue and suspect”.
The new information concerns a “foreign” man who was in the Algarve at the time of the youngster’s disappearance in 2007.
Police will look at a “new clue and suspect” and claimed they “admit to being nearer to knowing what happened to Madeleine”, says the Correio da Manha newspaper.
The alleged tip-off has since led Portuguese police and Scotland Yard to share key information on the investigation.
A source in Portugal told the Mirror: “The British were here recently, there were talks at the PJ office in the city.
“It’s all very secret but then it always is with the Madeleine case. Only the police know who the suspect is.”
t is not clear if the man’s current whereabouts are known.
Madeleine was three when she vanished from her holiday flat at Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007 while parents Kate and Gerry ate with friends nearby.
According to a report by the Sun, Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry are said to be “very grateful” that British cops are remaining so “focused and committed” in their painstaking bid to find out Madeleine’s fate.
“They have had their hopes raised then dashed many times in the past so they are not getting buoyed up by any fresh developments. It’s too devastating when nothing comes of it,” a family spokesperson told the publication.
“The Met Police are keeping them informed every step of the way and when there’s something significant happening they’ll be the first to know.
“But they can’t discuss in public what may or may not be going on while the investigation is still underway. Officers have told them not to say anything.”
