Leonard Cohen Dies Aged 82
The musical legend who brought us "Hallelujah" has died.

Musical legend Leonard Cohen has died at the age of 82. Cohen’s death was confirmed today by his label, Sony Music Canada on the singer’s Facebook page:

“It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away. We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries.”

As a singer and songwriter, Cohen’s career spanned five decades having emerged in the 1960s with his debut album Songs of Leonard Cohen. Since that time, Cohen enjoyed great success as a songwriter for artists like Collins, James Taylor and Willie Nelson amongst others.

Cohen was best known for his hit song “Hallelujah” but also had success with hits “Suzanne”, “Bird on the Wire” and “Tower of Song”. He released his final album You Want it Darker earlier this year.

Cohen has been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame and the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In making the announcement, Sony Music Canada confirmed that a memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. “The family requests privacy during their time of grief.”
